Video: Gil Scott-Heron is back : BBC2 Newsnight special

2010 will mark the return of one of the greatest musicians and writers of our times : Gil Scott-Heron is back in full force, with his new album ‘I’m New Here’ soon out on XL Records.

The first teaser track has leaked today, together with a video of the recording, but let’s watch Newsnight first, for those of you not in the know about this man. BBC2 tracked Gil down for an indepth talk about what has happened to this man we’d easily call a living legend.

“He was called the black Bob Dylan. Songs about racism and poverty, hard-hitting yet melodic, climbed the charts in Britain and America.

But then the records dried up. You never seemed to hear about concepts anymore. There were stories about drugs and jail. What ever happened to Gil Scott-Heron?”
